A short paper addressing the idea of magic in relation to media.
Following the effects of resonant cords and oscilating waves emanating
from transmission lines, namely the art of the aerials. All with the
sole intention to consider that what we could call ‘magic’ (if at all
possible today with so much science, rationalization,
mediapostitivism) as a way that could lead us into a sort of
resistance?, aware that this word raises nothing more than resistance
by so many so often put down as some sort of “naive” antiglobalization
adolescent attitude or say, yet another brooklyn designer
revolutionary adopting/adapting tiqqun’s texts as the new pose to be a
la mode et a la monde de la fashion, or was it faction? bahh!.. de que
parte estamos? from what side can we talk from? the transmitter, the
reciver the jammer, a man in the middle… ok, let me get back.

resistance is magical, resistance we saw recently is war directed by
nameless nobodies (in relation to the legionary mobs engaging on DDoS
attacks).

now think of spending 2 long nites relaying radio signals captured by
remote radios rigs shared over the internet, via a device called
websdr that allows you to tune someone elses remote radio. There i was
sharing a demodulated frequency over a streaming server, (anyone could
operate this hamradio rigs without the need of a license). Doing what?
scanning the 40m band for morse code, for those particular 2 days our
best options where 2 radios in Grece, another one in the south
france.. what do we distant others, connected to the realtime relay
sound stream, wanted to listen or do with this faraway noises? well,
it was all about Egypt’s revolution (25 January 2011 – present).
Monitoring CW at around 7100 mhz, a soundcard pipped this into icecast
(real time streaming server) and a rough peak of 168 listeners got the
signals, few of them able to decode morse code, searched for messages.
They informed the rest of us over an IRC chat channel. Was this task
succesful? well that’s not so much the point cause this is a clear way
to enact some sort of response_ability. Perhaps not yet
responsibility. (I hope there’s a working diff there in english?).

But why do I present this as relevant in this day and age of
LHColliders? well. for me this very simple act still holds to it some
“magical” realm. Better, why not, lets call it a strong component of
mythical and fictional power. Perhaps by some it might be quickly
categorized as primitive thinking or even ignorant beliefs. Theres a
crossing of particles and waves that reaches the terrain

when this sparks, this other one often lightens up! see?

Resistance as disobedience, spanning from a psychic phase, an opening,
a break or even a slip out of the rules of daily boring reality…

To call in the voices from the ether, or to be more precise, to try to

so called social machine, the enslaved prisioner inside a cached
mechanical turk.

But now the real shit is that we were raised by a hijacked
geostationary satellite, using an 12m diameter dish parabolic antenna
we got the downlink of all sort of crap one would ever wanted. Raised
on USA crap, fed by junk, puking induced toxins… demodulate, detox!

But after almost 3 decades, we are still scanning bands, searching for
“those sounds i’ve never heard before”.., tired music genres, tired of
intellectual sound art poses and striving to become attuned with the
technological nature of Noise. Guided by the ear and the usual
instruments…antennas, streaming servers and IRC chat channels.
Nothing new there appart from some consciuos level that gets a push
from that unexplainable layer, the same one that suports all possible
“creative misreadings” and servers to stage the event where matter can
be touched. Inventing disorders.

Technologies to bring in a plethora of unheard sounds to my ears cause
i have a strange affair and attraction with all what deals with
technological conversion, tech approprition or better dissobediente
technologies, leaving aside all the religious shit in favor of a
mistical or even esoteric dimension.

So there’s this satellite, one from the DoD (the yankee Department of
“Defense”) put in place at longitudinal degree 15.5°East from
Greenwich, some 36k km above latitude °0 (yes there above our maladic
equator).

An interesting crossing for a proper Tx antenna.

The satellites converage, also know as footprint, reaches a portion of
North america to the east, part of south america (Brasil, Venezuela,
Colombia) but also the north of Africa and central Europe. A
privileged spot at geostationary orbit (yes somewhere up there in the
middle of the atalntic, perfect location from where to do that what in
1864 James Clerk Maxwell forsaw what we are sold today: getting
ourselves “freed” from the tyranny of cables, another dream that
became a nightmare.

Today that satellite up there, is being used 24/7 mostly by Brazillian
pirates, no fear. The fact that this people are not afraid of using
this military device floating there above their heads, the fact that
is an out of control technology, the fact that the AMSAT regulations
forbid this practice, calls nothing more than that notion of
resistance and change, all happening in the realm of the radio waves,
all connected by the same magical bonds of kinship. The drive to
communicate, the will to engage against whatever rule and share with
the Other.

Radio magic is that act of tunning a satellite, is the antenna
receiving like a resonant chord.

Imagine a relay over sat done from countries that obey not
DoD/pentagon control. We don’t need to launch more satellites, leave
aside that techno hype pose and think of ways on how to reclaim the
spectrum. Building a radio and antenna is documented all around, is
simple and fun while cheap.

Get ready for when your goverment decides to use the internet kill switch.

CONSIDER TYING IT TO FICTOCRITICISM FROM SOUND.

in 1947 a priest started a radio project in a small town near Bogota,
tha capital city of colombia.

he began a project that intended to help the paysan improve not just
‘entertain’ (as is now), The 5 main topics of this radio where:
health, literacy (the country had like 80% of analfabetism), arimetics
and howsehold economy without the intention to keep him distant from
his/her parcel but increasing his know-how in agriculture and
cattle..?

this was by 1949 and went til 1989. the project was called escuelas
radiofonicas and at some point had philips producing some 30.000
radios. around 1955 30.000 persons had learn to read and write thanks
to the folletos for the distant education learning program. This
program was called ACPO and received support from th UNESCO, it was a
model follwed in 24 countries (search for this list). The network
summed up to 600KW, it was one of the strongets stations in Latin
America at the time, for a cultural network, it was indeed one of the
biggest ever.

i have to say here that the so famous OLP child project got some
inspiration from that old and forgotten radio case in distant
Colombia. I could care less about the MIT lab deals with DARPA for
whom the intelligent kids in massachusets help produce smart boms, it
could be INTEL…

So yes, to keep the feets in similar battlegrounds, SEE WHEN THE FIRST
SMART BOMB NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM WAS PRODUCED AND HOW MUCH IT RELAYS ON
SATELLITE TECHNOLOGY?.

while i was writing this short paper, i realized im since the 80′ies
in between this radio-waves, and you are, all of us carrying antennas
in our pockets.
